Day Camps and other youth summer programs

Summer can be a fantastic, life-enhancing experience for ages 7 to 13 at Riverview Foundation. Day Camps here are an exciting and upbeat educational 6 weeks in the natural beauty of Maine. Campers are thrilled to experience outdoor adventures, nature-based martial arts, and fun & games all summer long. Parents love the structured education, life skills, the variety of experiences their children are exposed to by the highly qualified staff, and the myriad opportunities offered by the local field trips to places that highlight Maine at its summertime best.

Riverview has hosted these Summer Day Camps since 1991, and every year is something different. Riverview's Camps have become known throughout Maine and beyond as a place for youth to enjoy, grow, and learn in a nurturing, nature filled environment throughout the summer. Activities include educational experiences such as knot-tying, orienteering, map & compass, arts and crafts, campsite safety, shelter building, and many more. Core weekly activites include martial arts, canoeing, natural obstacle courses, hiking, swimming, nature education, basic conservation, teamwork skills through fun & games, and more as well. The primary campsite is located at our 162-acre Topsham Training Grounds on the Cathance River in Topsham, Maine. Daily van transportation is also available from our South Portland location.

Other youth summer programs

Participants in the LRP, AIM, Teen Universal Movement, 21st CCLC other youth programs throughout the year often take part in the adventure and focused learning opportunities provided by group wilderness trips during the months of May-October. Trips spanning 3 to 8 days roam the rivers and mountainsides of Maine and New Hampshire, including Riverview's special 50-acre mountainside facility in the Upper Enchanted region of northwest Maine, and our 111-acre Moose River campsite on the picturesque 33-mile "Bow Trip" stretch of the Moose River. Trips are, and can be, scheduled for youth groups of all sizes to thoroughly explore teamwork and leadership, wilderness education, and enjoyment of all Maine has to offer.

Summer martial arts training

Riverview students have extraordinary martial art training opportunities, many of which are provided at Riverview by Mother Nature herself. The majority of Riverview's special outdoor classes taking place during the summer months; however, Riverview also incorporates extensive year-round training in outdoor environments into its curriculum, taking advantage of the beauty and challenges     presented by each season.

During each summer Riverview takes advantage of the warmer weather to re-structure its class schedules, making time for both extended classes and a completely separate summer class curriculum. This special summer training is focused on taking both awe and inspiration from nature as
a guide to help students understand their connection to the ancient martial arts and the natural world in which they live, play and work.
