Youth Programs

Youth Programs have been an integral part of Riverview Foundation programming the last two decades. Classes in every Riverview Youth Program are based upon the creation of lasting outcomes for youth
through character development, experiential learning, hands-on and physically active and engaging curricula.

Universal Movement is the primary martial art program at Riverview. A non-competitive program for children ages 6-12 and teens ages 12-18, Universal Movement offers youths the chance to explore the benefits and excitement of traditional martial art study. This class provides valuable life skills for injury prevention, self-confidence, physical health and fitness, emotional control, and the development of a strong, positive character. A particular highlight of this program is the strong emphasis Universal Movement places on realistic training in the outdoors, and the root that nature has historically played in ancient martial arts study.

21st Century Community Learning Center Project for youth is the newest Rivervew Foundation Youth Program creation. Designed for and funded by the Maine Department of Education, in direct partnership with the Brunswick School District, this program will be serving elementary, middle and high school youth with an estimated 5-year service start date of Nov 1, 2008. More info will be coming soon, since much of the beginning details and implementation plan must be finalized by Riverview Project Managment, Brunswick School District Administrators, and the 21 CCLC project Advisory Board during September/October

Access to Inspiration through Motivation, or A.I.M., is offered in selected Maine counties to provide youth positive activities and academic support in a tranquil, concentrated setting after school. Designed specifically for young people who have a high potential for success and who will benefit from a program which is positively structured and implemented for easy access to help with their growth and enjoyment, AIM offers an excellent solution to the unsupervised after-school hours which may lead to boredom, truancy, risky behaviors or delinquency.

The Leadership & Resiliency Program is a nationally recognized model prevention program which Riverview uses as the basis for teaching high school students that attend highly functioning Alternative Education programs. It has been proven successful in improving academics, self-esteem, responsible decision-making and personal health. The program provides a blend of 3 components: weekly in-school skill building, leadership development/community service projects, and outdoor adventure field trips with one or more overnight wilderness excursions. Groups range in size from small, electively-enrolled groups of 10-15, to full classes of 75 and more. The L.R.P. helps students to realize their personal goals and manage the pressures of their lives for positive outcomes.

Summer Camps are available for new faces and established students alike. For almost 20 years Riverview Foundation has hosted upbeat Summer Camps for children to flourish in an exciting, nature-based experience which centers on outdoor adventure, positive interactions with others, a host of educational topics, and strong role-modeling.
